The Cat’s Pyjamas: bringing cats in from the cold
Winter is a time to curl up with your cat and a book or movie, to spend time with friends playing board games, to bake cakes, to drink hot chocolate or mulled wine. It’s a time to “hygge” as the Danish call it.
While we enjoy those pleasures, for street cats it’s cold outside: they’re hungry and without shelter; they might need veterinary care and they most certainly need love.
The Cat’s Pyjamas is your chance to help bring cats in from the cold.
Host a Cat’s Pyjamas slumber party or event and raise money for Cat Protection to help bring cats in from the cold – because every cat deserves a loving and responsible home.
What to do?
To make fundraising for us even easier, we’ve partnered with Everyday Hero to give you the ability to create your own online fundraising page. In just minutes you can build and customise your own page here
Then you can start sharing the link with your friends and family, inviting everyone to your Cat’s Pyjamas event, and asking for a donation to help bring cats in from the cold.
Looking for some party ideas, see below for lots of tasty treat recipes, cat-themed cocktails, and delicious drinks, we’ve also put together some great game and movie suggestions – even our very own Cat’s Pyjamas Spotify playlist
Everything you need to celebrate in style and host the hottest party all winter.
Who can participate?
Anyone! You can host a private party at home or put on a special event at your workplace or school. The only criteria is that the person setting up the fundraising page on Everyday Hero is over 18 years of age. We would love children to be involved but naturally it’s up to their parent/guardian.
You can host your event any time until 5 August 2018. Just make sure to let your friends know the time and date of your event!
Where does the money go?
Funds raised will help our work providing shelter and finding loving homes for stray cats and kittens, as well as our feline welfare work in the community which includes desexing and vaccination. We help thousands of cats and kittens every year and rely on donations for our lifesaving work. All funds raised for your Cat’s Pyjamas event are securely collected through our Everyday Hero account.
To express our many meows of thanks, we have some special surprises in store for our biggest fundraisers – we will be awarding the highest overall fundraiser and the highest junior fundraiser (under 12) – so don’t be afraid to put your paw out and ask for funds to help our feline friends.
Cats living on the streets experience hunger, parasite infestations, bacterial infections from drinking dirty water and eating rotten food. They can be victims of cruelty and are at high risk of death from disease and injury. Despite this, they can still reproduce. Mama cats are fiercely maternal, but with poor nutrition and a parasite burden, her kittens will suffer unless someone kind helps her. Working with our community, volunteers and foster carers, Cat Protection brings in from the cold hundreds of cats and kittens every year. We provide them with all the attention and veterinary care they need as well as food, warm beds and TLC until they find their loving forever homes.
Don’t forget to share your Cat’s Pyjamas event across all your social media accounts. Make sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. Help us spread the word by using the tags #catprotectionsocietynsw, #cats_pyjamas and #BringingCatsInFromTheCold when sharing your party pics and for your chance to be featured on our social channels.
“The Cat’s Pyjamas” can be pyjamas – purr-fect for a slumber party – but the phrase can also suggest more than that: the cat’s whiskers or the bee’s knees, if you like. So, your chicest loungewear or your cosiest PJs, whatever takes your fancy.
We will be running a best-dressed competition, so encourage all your guests to wear their best and share your outfits on Instagram, using our hashtags, to be in the running to win a kitty gift pack – a fabulous Cat Protection tote bag filled with goodies.
Treat your guests to some delicious tasting wines, whether it’s Merlot to make your mulled wine or some bubbles to celebrate, Goodwill Wine has a range of wonderful wines to choose from plus $2 from every bottle purchased will be donated to Cat Protection. Click here to order!
