Scam Alert – Expired microchip registration
We have recently been made aware of a scam targeting pet owners that is going around.
A number of people have reported receiving letters and/or emails saying their pet’s registration has expired and they need to pay a fee to renew otherwise the microchip will not be valid.
This is a scam. Please do not reply, click on any links or enter payment details.
Your pet’s microchip registration will never expire.
In NSW – registration of all pets is a ‘lifetime registration’.
Stay alert and if you are unsure of your pets’ registration status, you can always call or visit your local council to check.
If you receive a notification of this kind send a copy of the email to the Office of Local Government at olg@olg.nsw.gov.au
Or visit ScamWatch the Australian Government’s National Anti-Scam Centre to report.
