Felix – Parlour Panther
I adopted Felix in December 2020. He was very, very shy and trembling when I first met him. He is now a confident parlour panther. He also likes to spend at least half an hour sitting beside me each evening. Although he is an indoor cat, I have put netting on my balcony so that he can enjoy the sunshine most days. Incidentally, my book The Man Behind the Prize: a life of J.F. Archibald was published recently so Felix has now become what is called “an author’s cat.” He sat with me while I was editing the proofs for the book.
A big thanks to Emilie who sensed that Felix would be a good cat for me to look after.

P.S Here at my apartment in Waterloo Felix uses 6 windows and the balcony to look at birds, dogs and people outside. The 7th window is the laundry window which he only uses to stare into the sky for a long time every afternoon. I used a map to draw a straight line from the window. The line intersects the Cat Protection Society where he lived before I adopted him. The distance is about 5 km. What is he sensing? Surely he cannot hear the sounds of his old home? Has anyone encountered a cat doing a similar longing?
